AI Technical Product Owner (Full remote)

The AI Technical Product Owner will have genuine authority over what the AI models do and genuine credibility with the engineering team that builds them.

You will work with experienced ML engineers, optimisation specialists, and energy market analysts.

You will:

-Convert energy market requirements into AI/ML specifications the engineering team can implement.

-Be the first person to say when a model output does not make commercial sense - and explain why

-Define, prioritise, and validate the AI/ML product requirements for the VPP platform (Virtual Power Platform) - ensuring that the models the engineering team builds are grounded in real energy market mechanics and produce outputs that are commercially actionable.

Responsibilities:

AI product specification

• Own the product backlog for AI/ML modules: bidding optimisation engine, price forecasting, generation forecasting, and battery dispatch optimisation
• Write AI product requirements in a format that bridges market language and engineering language - specifying inputs, outputs, accuracy thresholds, edge cases, and failure modes
• Define acceptance criteria for each AI module: what does the model need to demonstrate in back-testing and live market conditions before it is production-ready.
• Prioritise model improvement requests based on commercial impact - quantifying the revenue or penalty difference between current and improved performance

Domain translation & validation

• Translate energy market mechanics into mathematical formulations
• Review AI model outputs for commercial plausibility
• Facilitate model validation sessions between the energy market expert team and the engineering team
• Define the back-testing scenarios and performance benchmarks against which the AI models are evaluated

Product roadmap

• Maintain the AI product roadmap
• Define the AI product requirements
• Manage the AI feature specification backlog in Jira or equivalent

Stakeholder alignment

• Act as the primary point of contact between market stakeholders for AI product decisions
• Produce regular product progress updates
• Identify and escalate AI product risks
